I started at Pestana Hotel Group in January 2007 as an assistant director at the iconic Pestana Carlton Madeira; without a doubt a very enriching experience due to the opportunity to start where the hotel group was founded, being able to feel and understand the company in the most genuine way.

After my experience on the island of Madeira, I went to the Pestana Palace in Lisbon, followed by Porto Santo, and I am currently in the Algarve, where I work as a Business Unit Area Manager for Pestana Hotels & Resorts in the region. From the beginning, there have been many, constant opportunities for professional growth, not only through the internal training programmes provided but also through contact with a wide range of professionals who work as part of the team.

The diversity of the experiences that the various employees have, combined with mobility, have contributed to making me a more well-rounded professional with a wider range of skills.

Some of the most challenging and exciting moments have come from my involvement in renovations and opening new units. Working in a company where we have the opportunity to contact the Chairman is a golden opportunity that very few companies can offer.

In September 2006, after completing the Technical and Hotel Management course at the Porto Hotel and Tourism School, I began my career at Pestana Group as a receptionist at Pousadas do Alentejo. In 2008, I was promoted to Head of Reception at Pousada de Arraiolos, gaining skills in events organisation at the Pousada itself. From the end of 2009 to March 2010, I worked as an Operational Assistant at Pousada de Queluz. Then, from March 2009 to February 2010, I worked in the banquet area and in organising and managing events at the Pousadas in Estremoz, Elvas and Vila Viçosa.

In 2010, I enrolled in the Growing Together programme, having left my role to support Pestana Delfim, where I later became the Business Unit Supervisor. From 2013 to 2015, I was a Business Unit Supervisor at Pousada de Sagres and since 2016 I have been at Pestana Sintra Hotel.

Since joining the Group, I have had the opportunity to work in a string of Pousadas (Torrão, Alcácer do Sal, Arraiolos, Beja, Estremoz, Elvas, Vila Viçosa, Palmela, Queluz and Sagres) and Pestana Delfim, Pestana Alvor Praia, Pestana D. João and Pestana Sintra Hotels.

The group has allowed me to grow professionally, not only through the useful training it arranges, but also through the opportunity to get to know other departments, businesses, geographical areas and Business Units. I love working at Pestana Group because we are forever learning and evolving.”

I began working at Pestana Hotel Group in 2006. At the beginning of this journey, I was a receptionist at the Madeira Magic Health Club for four years.

I then had the opportunity to complete a Beautician/Cosmetologist course in 2008, where I began to develop new beauty care skills. I currently work in the Magic Spa Team as a Beautician and, whenever necessary, I am challenged to develop my Coordination/Training skills as well.

I feel fulfilled professionally and grateful for the opportunities that have been given to me over the years and for the Group’s belief in me. Doing what I like gives me a sense of freedom; enjoying what I do makes me happy!

I started my professional career at Pestana Group in March 2010. Before joining this “family”, I did two internships while still at university: in the finance department in Madeira in July 2007, and later in July 2009, I worked in the operational area of Pestana Carlton Madeira.

Since 2010, I have contributed to the Pestana Group’s Development and New Projects Area. This is a very dynamic area that allowed me, and still allows me, to get to better understand new cultures and different ways of thinking, and develop negotiation and relationship-building skills according to the market and region in which we are seeking new investment opportunities.

This 9-year journey of learning and teamwork has been a memorable experience. The close relationship between all areas and hierarchical levels (promoted by our Chairman) is undoubtedly one of Pestana Hotel Group’s secrets to success for over 45 years.

The opportunity I have had, alongside all of the group’s departments, to contribute to the sustainable and ambitious growth achieved over the last few years and on developing future projects that have already been launched is a source of pride and great satisfaction.

I began working at Pestana Group in the Pestana Vacation Club in 1991. Since then, I have worked at Carlton Madeira, Pestana Palms, Pestana Grand, Pestana Promenade, Pestana Village and Pestana Miramar hotels.

Through facing new challenges, Pestana Group has helped me grow, progress, overcome obstacles and reach goals. From the beginning, I created a relationship of loyalty and trust with the Group which has always been recognised and motivates me every day.

There are many memories I carry with me and because we make history, we help people, we create unforgettable moments, we inspire confidence in our customers, there is one “Thank you” I will never forget. It came from a customer who returned after two years and told me he was back because I gave him the courage and strength to undergo heart surgery. I like working at Pestana Group because I believe in the company’s excellent service and charisma!

I began my career at Pestana Group in 2008 as a receptionist with Marketing and Communication Management training, having worked at Alcácer do Sal, Évora, Alvito and Beja. Between 2010 and 2012, I was the Assistant Director in charge of Events in the Alentejo region that has 10 Pousadas, and later the Central Region that has 7 Pousadas. Seeking to expand my knowledge, during different periods between 2012 and 2017, I took over the management of the Pousadas in Óbidos, Ourém and Queluz and learned from my experience there.  Since May 2017, I have been supervising the Pousada de Viseu and its charming SPA, with the aim of being continually challenged and leaving my comfort zone.

Throughout the years, Pestana Group has provided me with opportunities to grow professionally, to be supported, and to be constantly challenged. This is what motivates me and has made me fall in love with the fantastic job of leading teams and managing business units.

When I started my journey at Pestana Group in August 2000, the only golf courses were at Vale da Pinta and Gramacho. The Group soon increased the size of the Gramacho course, adding a further 9 holes, and purchased the Silves golf course. It purchased Alto Golf course in 2008 and Vila Sol golf course in 2011, and in 2012 we took over the maintenance of Beloura Golf course. We faced many obstacles during this time, but have overcome them with strong team work. Personally, it was this growth and facing different obstacles that allowed me to develop diverse skills and, above all, to believe that we are capable of almost anything.

It has been a dream come true for me to be involved in this constant growth and to help achieve it, dealing with the multiple challenges and contributing to making this area the largest golfing group in Portugal today, and a benchmark in Europe.

Having trained in various types of cooking, I started out at the Pestana Hotel Group in 2015 as the RIB – BEEF&WINE Head Chef, having introduced the concept in Porto and then helped introduce it in Lisbon. It was also my responsibility to develop the Pestana CR7 Lisboa restaurant project. I am currently developing the Pestana Porto – A Brasileira and other new ideas will follow soon!

In order to gain new skills and refresh my knowledge, so that I can continue to improve my work and help the Group achieve its objectives, I am a keen participant in training programmes, which the company has always encouraged me to do.

Over the past few years, the Pestana Hotel Group has given me the opportunity to achieve the right balance between personal and professional development. In this respect, I would like to emphasise the encouragement the Pestana Hotel Group gives its employees, actively supporting their growth and offering conditions to bring out the best in each and every one.

I joined the Pestana Hotel Group in 2013 and, since then, I’ve worked atthe following establishments: Pestana Cidadela Cascais, Pestana Vila Sol, Pestana Palace Lisboa and Pousada de Lisboa.

Over the past five years, I’ve had the opportunity to take part in a variety of training and development projects. Of particular note was the Behavioural Project training in the area of Business at the AESE Business School and the Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics (Strategic Management Programme).

As I’ve worked in a variety of establishments in my career, for many of the Group’s brands, in different situations and with differing prospects and management needs, I have been able to shape and develop a set of personal and professional skills that I consider extremely valid. Also, the excellent team with whom I have been privileged to work in the most diverse areas of the Group, have made it possible to overcome the challenges and raise the status of the Pestana Hotel Group year after year.

I find it motivating to belong to a team of excellent people and to have the opportunity to grow in the country's leading hotel group.
